  • 5,250 GWh of renewables procured in 2019 out of 5,740 GWh electricity consumed
  • 93% of Americas (100% in the U.S. alone), 75% of Asia-Pacific and 99% of EMEA was covered by renewables

OVERALL PROGRESS

  • Since 2015, Equinix has increased its renewable energy coverable from 33.5% to 92% globally even as our portfolio has doubled
  • Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs) for 225 MW of Texas and Oklahoma wind power supply over 900,000 MWh of renewables to our U.S. portfolio each year
  • Our renewable energy also comes from Green-e RECs from wind in the U.S., certified green power from our suppliers in Europe and international certificates from renewable energy projects in China, Japan and Vietnam

ASHRAE thermal guidelines

365体育官方网站Reduce power consumption for cooling, while maintaining a safe operating temperature for computing equipment; moving from A1 recommended to A1 allowable.

Cold/hot aisle containment

Lowers energy consumption and enables more efficient cooling by using physical barriers to reduce mixing cold air in data center supply aisles with the hot air in exhaust aisles.

Energy-efficient lighting systems

Utilize motion-activated controls and/or LEDs to reduce energy consumption and ambient heat from operating lights.

Fuel cells

Offer performance/quality, reliability and resilience placing power near where it is consumed.

Machine learning and AI

High temperature chilled water set points

Improve our design and operational PUEs by raising the chilled water temperature to save energy.

Heat Recovery

365体育官方网站Recycles waste heat that can be shared with local communities (offices, schools etc.). This reduces CO2 emissions and other harmful gases.

Natural Refrigerants

Leverage natural alternatives to hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) that do not deplete the ozone layer and have a lower environmental impact.

Green Building Certifications, Standards and Renewable Energy Coverage

LEED accreditation or equivalent green building standards are Equinix’s policy for all new construction. Equinix also certifies sites to standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and U.S. EPA Energy Star for Data Centers, as well as local certifications such as Singapore’s BCA Green Mark. Many Equinix data centers offer 100% renewable energy. Sites with renewable energy may be claimed by Equinix and its customers as net-zero carbon emissions for Scope 2 emissions from electricity consumption.
